What was the most expensive item you have bought recently, in less than 15 minutes? I surprised myself by buying a car.
Ever since i started to make more money, i realized that i my taste has also gone upscale, and i began to notice more exquisite merchandise.
A few years ago, when my parents were on holiday in USA, as usual i spent my weekends at the shopping mall. Therefore i was supposed to enjoy my day at the Lot 10, StarHill Gallery area at Bukit Bintang in Kuala Lumpur, and i while driving there, i noticed a BMW car showroom around the area.
The car dealer was having some big banners posted outside and i've not really been to a BMW car gallery before, so i decided to pop over to check it out. There were of course the BMW in different series, BMW 3 series, 5 series, 6 series, and of course the Z4 or the X5 models.
During weekends, i would normally be wearing casual clothes and on that day i was just wearing a baby tee and a short skirt, so basically you would pass me off as just a young executive or even a college student. Anyway i spotted a BMW 3 series with a blue greyish tone and therefore, asked for the price. That would cost about RM240,000 (works out to over US$65,000), excluding other items such as car registration fees etc.
I did not know what got into me, and i just decided to place an order for 1 immediately. The car salesman was in a way shocked and asked whether i wanted to do a test drive ? I have not driven a BMW before and was worried i would embarass myself thus i declined his offer.
While i was issuing the cheques payment for the car, another salesperson came over and was thinking that i was preparing the cheques for my boss. Anyway, to cut the story short, they were surprised that it was me, the "not so polished looking gal" that bought the brand new BMW and they didn't even had to Sell me.
After walking out of the car showroom, i was happy for about 30 minutes and then, was more occupied as to which new pair of shoes i should be buying.
Only when my parents came back from their holiday, that i started to feel little bit of "buyer's remorse", but as i have not collected my car yet, i hinted that i have made a new car purchase. Now, it's not like any of us have driven a luxury car before, so they kept on guessing whether i had bought a Toyota, or was it a Honda.
When i drove the car back home, they had a big shock and was at first very worried whether i would be able to afford the car! Luckily, i've been doing Internet Business since 2000 thus the car is definitely not a big issue for me.
I hardly drive my car nowadays, as i'm mostly travelling overseas and am only staying in Kuala Lumpur for 1 week or so each month.
To avoid making huge purchases at one go, i try to avoid going to car showrooms, jewelry stores and of course, new property launches.
